If you intend to own a dog, cat or any other type of animal that is designated as a companion animal by your Council, you must ensure the animal is identified and registered. Please be aware that all dogs are treated as companion animals, even working dogs on rural properties, guard dogs and corrective services dogs.
Your companion animal must be identified from the time it is 12 weeks old or when it first sold. Identification involves the implantation in the animal of an approved microchip. The animal must not be sold unless it has been identified. Your companion animal must be registered by the time they are six months of age.
Please consult the Contact Officer for more information.
