Firearm with Silencer Permit - New South Wales

Description

You will require this permit if you intend to possess and use a silencer. A silencer is a device designed for muffling, reducing or stopping the noise created by the firing of a firearm.

When the silencer is attached to a firearm, the firearm is classified as a prohibited weapon. Therefore, you must apply for a Prohibited Weapons Permit for the silencer and a Firearms Permit to authorise the possession and use of the firearm to which the silencer is attached.

In order to possess or use a prohibited weapon in NSW you must have a genuine reason to do so. Genuine reasons may include: you require a silencer for business purposes such as a prohibited weapon dealer, theatrical armourer, museum, or control of feral animals.
