Forestry Plantation Authorisation - New South Wales

You will need this authorisation if you intend to operate a forestry plantation with an area greater than 30 hectares. There are two classes of plantations that require authorisation:

  • timber plantations (commercial species for harvest)
  • plantations other than timber plantations (for the protection of the environment by reducing salinity, or carbon sequestration / trading).

Please be aware that the establishment, management and any harvesting operations on authorised plantations must comply with the plantations code (found on the Agency website). If your plantation is likely to have an impact on unique or special wildlife (flora or fauna) you will need to notify the agency.

Service type

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

Applications can be made by the owner of the plantation or by any other person with the consent of the owner.

All applications must:

  • be accompanied by information requested by the Agency
  • provide a map (or similar) that identifies the area or areas of land comprising the plantation or proposed plantation
  • state the class of plantation for which authorisation is sought.

Please contact the agency to identify any further eligibility requirements.

The authorisation of a plantation remains in force unless it is cancelled.
