Heavy Vehicle Accreditation - New South Wales

Description

You can apply for heavy vehicle accreditation (HVA) to be recognised as a heavy vehicle operator with an approved safety management system (SMS). Accreditation helps operators demonstrate that they are compliant with safety requirements and supports applications for flexible operation exemptions. Accreditation is voluntary.

There are several tiers of accreditation that allow operators to demonstrate compliance with an SMS, the Maintenance Assurance Program or otherwise demonstrate alternative approaches to compliance.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for accreditation under the HVA scheme, you will need to:

  • demonstrate that you are able to comply with the Heavy Vehicle National Law and are a suitable person to hold accreditation
  • comply with the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL)
  • obtain a Safety Management System (SMS) that suits the size and complexity of your operation and complies with the SMS Standard 2026
  • provide compliance history (including a 5-year compliance history declaration), prescribed criminal history and the results of previous audits of transport activities.
