Heavy Vehicle Registration - New South Wales

Description

You must register a heavy vehicle before it can be legally driven on public roads. A heavy vehicle is any vehicle or trailer that has a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) greater than 4.5 tonnes.

If your heavy vehicle has been damaged and assessed as a repairable write-off, you are permitted to re-register it. However, you must have your vehicle repaired to manufacturer or industry standards and obtain a certificate of compliance for your vehicle by a licensed motor vehicle repairer.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this registration, you must:

  • be 18 or older
  • provide your vehicle's nominated configuration code
  • have your heavy vehicle inspected by a Heavy Vehicle Authorised Inspection Scheme (HVAIS) station or by the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR).
