You must register a heavy vehicle before it can be legally driven on public roads. A heavy vehicle is any vehicle or trailer that has a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) greater than 4.5 tonnes.
If your heavy vehicle has been damaged and assessed as a repairable write-off, you are permitted to re-register it. However, you must have your vehicle repaired to manufacturer or industry standards and obtain a certificate of compliance for your vehicle by a licensed motor vehicle repairer.
