You will need this licence if you operate premises with the primary purpose of selling alcohol to the public for consumption on and off premises. The types of businesses that use this licence include pubs, hotels, accommodation and large bars. The licence allows you to:
- sell alcohol to the public for consumption on the premises
- sell takeaway alcohol
- have gaming machines and allow keno and betting, subject to separate approval
- provide entertainment, however your venue's main business must be the sale and supply of alcohol to the public.
You can apply for a general bar hotel licence if you intend to run a bar that does not provide gaming or sell takeaway alcohol.
