Licence to Rehabilitate and Release Sick, Injured or Orphaned Native Fauna - New South Wales

Description

You will require this licence if you intend to rescue or rehabilitate sick, injured or orphaned native fauna in NSW. Fauna are animals, including any mammal, bird, reptile or amphibian.

Please note that new applications will only be considered when a call for applications has been published. This will generally be when a gap or inadequacy in service provision cannot be filled by an existing licence group.

Licence

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

For a group to be eligible they will need to:

  • Be Incorporated or a registered company, or give a formal written undertaking to obtain incorporation or registration;
  • Have at least 20 members who intend to be active fauna rehabilitators of which at least 5 have relevant experience;
  • Have public liability and personal accident insurance for its members, or gives a formal written undertaking to obtain this insurance before undertaking any fauna rehabilitation;
  • Have a process in place for managing internal conflict; and
  • Gives a formal written undertaking to comply with the approved Codes of Practice and Guidelines.

Please be aware that eligibility criteria will vary for zoological parks and individuals.

Duration

A new licence will be issued for no more than 12 months.

Approval time

Applicants should allow eight weeks for their licence application to be assessed.
