You will require this licence if you are a not-for-profit organisation and intend to sell alcohol for consumption at functions. A function is an event that is conducted either for public amusement or entertainment, or to raise funds for any charitable purpose. Events can be a dinner, ball, convention, seminar, sporting event, race meeting, exhibition, performance or trade fair.
There are four types of functions covered by this licence:
- Single function: you may sell alcohol for consumption at up to six functions annually without the need to obtain a liquor licence.
- Multiple functions: you may sell alcohol for consumption at up to 52 functions a year with a limited liquor licence. You may apply to sell alcohol at an additional number of functions to be held through the year. At least 14 days notice of a proposed function must be provided to the local police for the area where the function is being held.
- Special event: you may sell alcohol for consumption at a special event of an infrequent or temporary nature that has a social or economic benefit to the community.
- Trade fairs: you may sell alcohol at events that showcase and demonstrate products and services, such as wine or food shows. This licence type may also allow take away sales.
Please be aware that licence conditions may vary depending on the type of organisation applying for it.
