You may choose to be the operator of your own mine or site, or appoint another person to operate the mine or site on your behalf. If you elect to act as the mine or site operator, you must notify the agency to that effect.
A mine or site operator is a person with the necessary skills, knowledge and resources to operate the mine or site. Their key responsibilities include developing and implementing a safety management system that is used as a primary means of ensuring the safety of workers at the mine or site.
