You will need this permit if you intend to explore for petroleum offshore. Petroleum means any naturally occurring hydrocarbon or mixture of hydrocarbon, whether in a gaseous, liquor or solid state.
Permit holders are authorised to:
- explore for petroleum in a specified area within three nautical miles of the New South Wales coastline
- carry on such operations and execute such works as are necessary for that purpose, in the specified area.
The agency may invite applications for the grant of a permit in respect of a block or blocks. Please be aware that if petroleum is discovered you will need to apply for a production licence to produce petroleum and a pipeline licence to convey petroleum.
