You will require a permit if you intend to explore a specified area for petroleum within three nautical miles off the shore of New South Wales. Please be aware that anything introductory to, or knowingly connected with exploration for petroleum will require a permit.
Petroleum means any naturally occurring hydrocarbon or mixture of hydrocarbon, whether in a gaseous, liquor or solid state. Petroleum is used to produce fuels including petrol, paraffin and diesel oil.
This permit will allow you to:
- explore for petroleum
- carry on such operations and execute such works as are necessary for that purpose, in the specified area.
The Agency may invite applications for the grant of a permit in respect of a block or blocks. Please be aware that if petroleum is discovered you will need to apply for a production licence to produce petroleum and a pipeline licence to convey petroleum.
