Onshore Petroleum Assessment Lease - New South Wales

Description

An Onshore Petroleum Assessment Lease will provide you the exclusive right to prospect for and assess petroleum deposits in a specified area. This lease may be appropriate either where:

  • a resource has been proven and the feasibility of production has been established, but the project is not currently viable, although it has potential to be developed in the foreseeable future
  • there are areas of potential which are natural extensions to existing operations or projects, but it is currently impractical to apply for a production lease.

You are allowed to continue prospecting operations and to recover petroleum in the course of assessing the viability of commercial mining.

Please be aware that the area comprised in the lease must be not more than 4 blocks.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this lease you must provide:

  • a map or plan of the intended area of land
  • a proposed work program that indicates the nature and extent of operations
  • evidence of your financial standing
  • evidence of your technical qualifications and the technical qualifications of your advisers
  • evidence of your ability to comply with the legislation (for example, a statement of undertaking)
  • all the requested documentation set out in the application form.

Please be aware that following lodgement of your application, you are required to publish a newspaper advertisement giving notice of the application within 21 days.
