Private Health Facilities Licence - New South Wales

Description

You will require this licence if you intend to operate a private health facility (for example, private hospitals and day procedure centres). Private health facilities are defined as being either a:

  • premises where patients are admitted, provided with medical, surgical or other prescribed treatment and then discharged
  • premises where patients are provided with prescribed services or treatments.

There are currently 19 prescribed classes of health services. Your facility can be licensed for more than one class of health service. Services include but are not limited to:

  • anaesthesia
  • chemotherapy
  • maternity
  • radiotherapy
  • renal dialysis
  • rapid opioid detoxification.

The Agency website will provide further details on the prescribed classes of health services. Your facility must meet all the general licensing standards and any associated licensing standards that apply to each class of facility.

Please be aware that this licence does not apply to institutions conducted by or on behalf of the State (for example, public hospitals, and nursing homes).

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • hold or otherwise be covered by insurance, or other liability cover, as may be prescribed by the regulations in relation to the class of facility
  • ensure that, at all times, a medical advisory committee is appointed in accordance with relevant legislation
  • ensure that the facility is conducted in accordance with the licensing standards applicable to it
  • ensure that reasonable standards of patient care and safety are maintained at the facility
  • provide all required information as requested by the Agency.

Duration

The duration of this licence is 1 year and may be open to extension.
