Private Mental Health Facility Licence - New South Wales

Description

You will need this licence if you intend to keep premises as a private mental health facility (hospital) for the admission, care and treatment of patients.

Private health facilities must provide for the accommodation of one or more of the following groups:

  • patients who are admitted for more than 24 hours
  • patients who are not discharged on the same day that they are admitted, but are admitted for not more than 24 hours
  • patients who are admitted and discharged on the same day.

Your licence will specify the maximum number of patients you may keep or treat at your mental health facility and will outline any terms and conditions.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence, you must:

  • be approved to provide medical services and treatments to patients
  • appoint a medical practitioner to act as the superintendent of the hospital
  • submit a plan of the premises
  • specify the maximum number of patients the facility can accommodate at any one time in each ward
  • specify the number (if any) of procedure rooms intended to be provided at the facility
  • comply with any other conditions or hold any other qualifications as required by the agency.
