Registration of a Heavy Vehicle - New South Wales

Description

You must register a heavy vehicle before it can be legally driven on public roads in New South Wales. A heavy vehicle is any vehicle or trailer that has a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) greater than 4.5 tonnes.

If your heavy vehicle has been damaged and subsequently assessed as a repairable write-off, you are allowed to re-registered it. However, you must:

  • have your vehicle repaired to manufacturer or industry standards by a licensed motor vehicle repairer
  • have the licensed repairer issue a certificate of compliance your vehicle
  • submit your vehicle for re-registration.
