You will need this registration if you intend to provide housing or housing services for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander communities. This registration ensures that high quality housing and housing services are provided to communities that are eligible for this support.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this registration, your organisation must be either:

  • an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Corporation (within the meaning of the Australian Government Act)
  • an Aboriginal Land Council (within the meaning of the Aboriginal Land Rights Act)
  • a body corporate which the AHO is satisfied is controlled, either directly or indirectly by Aboriginal people or Torres Strait Islanders (or both).

In order to demonstrate that your organisation is eligible, your application must include, but is not limited to, the following details of your organisation:

  • constitution and by-laws
  • governance structure
  • ABN and charitable status
  • strategic or business plans
  • a completed Registration Form
  • a current Audited Financial Statement.
