Regulated Water System Registration - New South Wales

Description

You will require this registration if you intend to install, or substantially modify, an air handling system, water system or cooling tower in a building.

A warm-water system is one designed to heat and deliver water at a temperature of less than 60 degrees celcius. A water-cooling system is a cooling tower, its associated equipment and pipe work.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Exemptions

The following systems are exempt:

  • warm water systems installed on all dwellings or premises, other than on a hospital
  • a water cooling system that is used solely for making snow.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this registration you will need to adhere to Council guidelines for health and safety standards. Please consult the Contact Officer for more information regarding eligibility requirements.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

Samples must be taken from a water cooling system at least once a month by a duly qualified professional, and tested for the presence of legionella and heterotrophic colony count.

Each cooling tower must also display a unique identification number designated by the local council.
