Regulated Water System Registration - New South Wales

Description

You will require this registration if you intend to either:

  • occupy a premises that has a water cooling system or warm water system
  • install a water cooling system or warm water system in a premises that you occupy.

The Public Health Act requires that all water cooling and warm water systems are registered with the local Council due to the potential risks associated with Legionnaires Disease.

A water-cooling system is a cooling tower, its associated equipment and pipe work. Cooling towers are most commonly used in air conditioning systems and refrigerators. A warm-water system is one designed to heat and deliver water at a temperature of less than 60 degrees Celsius.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this registration you will need to adhere to Council guidelines for health and safety standards. Please consult directly with the Council for information on any eligibility requirements specific to your registration.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

Samples must be taken from a water-cooling system at least once a month by a duly qualified professional, and tested for the presence of legionella and heterotrophic colony count.
