You will need this licence if you intend to repair flexible reeling, feeder and trailing cables for use in hazardous zones at a coal mine.
Every coal mine is required to have an electrical management plan. The plan must include provision for the repair of flexible reeling, trailing and feeder cables. These repair works must only be repaired at licensed facilities.
A licensed facility must also have at least one accredited cable repair signatory. A cable repair signatory is a person who has been verified as competent in the repair of cables and the inspection and replacement of parts of cable fittings.
Hazardous zones include:
- a return airway in a mine
- certain parts of the intake airway in a ventilation district in a mine
- parts of a mine in which there is a methane concentration of 1.25 per cent or greater in the general body of air.
