Security Clearance for Handling Explosives - New South Wales

Description

You will require this security clearance if you intend to have unsupervised access to explosives or security sensitive dangerous substances. Security sensitive dangerous substances currently refers to security sensitive ammonium nitrate. Explosives include:

  • dangerous goods of Class 1
  • goods too dangerous to be transported
  • articles or substances that, when manufactured, mixed, transported or assembled, can produce an explosive or pyrotechnic effect.

You must hold a security clearance in order to be granted a licence to handle explosives. A security clearance does not authorise you to obtain, possess, transport, use or otherwise handle explosives, you will need to apply for a separate licence. The clearance is a precondition for all explosives licences except the fireworks (single use) licence.

Please be aware that corporations can apply for a clearance that covers the whole corporation. However, you must nominate at least one person to hold a security clearance and be responsible for the whole corporation.

You will also require this clearance if you are employed or contracted to work under the direction or control of another person who holds an explosive licence. However, you will not require this clearance if you are working under supervision or working in a supervised area.
