Segregation Design and Method Approval for Dangerous Goods - New South Wales

You may need this approval if you intend to design and / or use a method of segregation for transporting dangerous and incompatible goods by road. This approval may only be required if your proposed activity does not comply with the relevant code.

Segregation helps minimise the risk of incompatible substances reacting dangerously if they were to come into contract with each other. Such contact might be caused by a leak, spill or vehicle accident. Segregation is particularly important to prevent food from being contaminated. An example of a segregation method requiring approval is a fixed locker attached to a vehicle.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this approval you must demonstrate to the Authority that:

  • it is impracticable to segregate the goods by a segregation device, or method of segregation approved under the code
  • the risk involved in using the method to transport the goods by road is not greater than the risk involved in using a device or method that complies with the code.
