Shooting Range Approval - New South Wales

Description

You will need this approval if you intend to operate a fixed or moveable shooting range (for example, a mobile shooting range or outdoor shooting range). A shooting range is an area provided with a firing line, targets and a stop butt for the controlled practice of shooting and is inclusive of the range danger area template.

Your approval may be subject to conditions. These conditions may involve the types of firearms allowed, the events the range is permitted to hold, and any safety measures or restrictions that apply to the range.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this approval, you must:

  • be of good character and repute (in the case of corporation or club, this applies to each director or office holder)
  • be situated in an area where the location, demographics and ownership of adjoining land has been taken into consideration (if the range is a fixed range).

The shooting range must:

  • meet the required standards
  • be situated in an accepted area (if the range is a fixed range).

Please be aware that before this approval can be granted, you must apply to the local council for consent for the use of the land as a shooting range. If you have never held a firearms licence or permit in NSW, or you do not currently hold an equivalent issued firearms licence or permit interstate, you are required to complete a firearms safety training course and provide evidence of this with your application.
