Vessel Registration - New South Wales


You will need this registration to use the navigable waterways in NSW if you own one for the following types or sizes of vessels:

  • power-driven vessels with an engine power rating of 4.0 kilowatts or more
  • any power-driven or sailing vessel of 5.5 metres or longer
  • every vessel subject to a mooring licence
  • personal watercraft (PWC).

Application process


When apply for vessel registration you will be required to provide the following:

  • proof of identity
  • application for Vessel Registration PDF form
  • the proof of acquisition
  • the hull identification number (HIN) certificate
  • the Australian Builders Plate if the vessel was built after 1 July 2006
  • a letter of Agreement for Recreational Vessel Registration from Transport for NSW.
