You will need this permit if you intend to collect ammunition. Permit holders in possession of ammunition must ensure that the ammunition is stored separately from firearms in a sturdy container that is locked.

Additional information

To be eligible, you must:

  • have a genuine reason for the licence and for possessing and collecting firearms
  • provide a letter outlining the reason for wanting this licence and the theme and structure of the proposed collection and any historical / sentimental value (in case of military memorabilia)
  • provide photos that demonstrate ammunition is stored separately from firearms
  • be at least 18 years of age
  • provide proof of residency in the Northern Territory
  • provide proof of identity
  • be able to meet the safe storage requirements under the Firearms Act and Regulations
  • have not been subject to a Domestic Violence Order within the last 5 years
  • have undertaken an approved Firearm Safety Training Course or passed an approved Firearms Safety Test.

Please note that you will be required to disclose any criminal history, or any history of mental illness or incapacity that may affect your suitability to hold a licence.
