You will need this approval if you are an occupational association preparing a scheme for the purposes of limiting the occupational liability of members of your association. The scheme aims to help improve the standards of professionals that are a part of occupational associations.
An occupational association is a body corporate that:
- represents the interests of people who are members of the same or related occupational groups, including a professional group and trade group
- limits membership to members of that occupational group.
Occupational liability is a civil liability, payment of damages or potential lawsuit arising from anything done by a member of an occupational association in the performance of their occupation.
The scheme may indicate an intention to operate as a scheme in the Northern Territory only, or Northern Territory and other jurisdictions.
