Approved Operator - Commercial Fishing - Northern Territory


You will need this permit if you intend to undertake a commercial fishing operation. An approved operator is someone who is in charge of commercial fishing operations.

The number of licences available in a fishery may be restricted.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible, you must:

  • an interview relevant to the fisheries you are seeking approval for must be completed with an Aquatic Resource Manager
  • be a fit and proper person
  • have a coxswain certificate as a minimum
  • complete a 'Fishing Rules' interview
  • undertake a National Police Check.


Approved operator cards will be valid for five years.
