Aquarium Fishing / Display Fishery Licence - Northern Territory


You must apply for an aquarium fishing / display fishery if you intend to collect live fish and aquatic life for the purpose of sale and display in aquariums. You may harvest from all inland, estuarine and marine waters to the outer boundary of the Australian fishing zone.

Additional information

There is only 12 aquarium fishing/display licences allowed in the NT and all are currently allocated. You can only get a licence by buying it from an existing licence holder.

An aquarium fishing / display fishery licensee shall not use gear other than gear, such as a cast net, a scoop net, a hand pump or a
freshwater pot.

You must not take fish from Doctor's Gully, East Point Aquatic Life Reserves in Darwin Harbour, Aboriginal sacred sites and aquaculture farm leases and sanctuary zones.
