Ban on Plastic Bags - Northern Territory

Description

If you are a retailer, you must not provide a prohibited plastic bag to a customer as a means of carrying goods they purchased, or will purchase. A plastic shopping bag:

  • has a body that contains polyethylene with a thickness of less than 35 microns
  • has handles.

This ban does not apply to:

  • a biodegradable bag
  • a plastic bag that forms an integral part of the packaging of the goods being purchased
  • barrier bags for fruit and vegetables.
