Barramundi Fishery Licence - Northern Territory


You will be required to apply for a barramundi fishing licence, if you intend to commercially fish for barramundi in the Northern Territory. The commercial barramundi season starts on February 1 and runs through to September 30.

The fishery is restricted to 14 licences which can be bought, sold and leased. All licences are currently allocated.

$275 for each 100m of gill net permitted to be used under the licence, plus NT Seafood council levy; or $265 transfer fee.

Additional information

Commercial barramundi fishers may not fish or anchor within the Dugong Protection Area in the south-western Gulf of Carpentaria.

This licence does not allow you to fish between Little Finnis and the Wildman River, including Byone Harbour, Darwin Harbour ,Shoal Bay and Kakadu National Park.

Each licence is allowed a maximum of 1000m of gill net.
