To be eligible for this registration, you will need:
- a Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building)
- at least 3 years practical experience carrying out building work in Class 3-9 one, two or three storey buildings.
Practitioners with no significant and complex building experience will have a limitation placed on their registration.
Builders in the Northern Territory are able to obtain a building contractor commercial registration based on their commercial building work experience through a grandfathering process.
Any Northern Territory builder who can demonstrate at least 3 years experience carrying out building work in Class 3 -9 buildings can apply under grandfathering for this registration. To apply you must provide:
- details of 3 years relevant experience including examples of projects
- a net assets certificate, certified by a registered accountant, that you have Net Tangible Assets of $50,000 or more
- evidence that you are a fit and proper person to be registered, such as references and financial history.
A builder wanting to grandfather into the commercial registration scheme must apply between 15 April 2024 and 14 April 2025. After this period, applicants must meet all eligibility requirements.
