Building Contractor Residential (Unrestricted) Registration - Northern Territory

Description

You will need this registration if you intend to undertake construction work where the value of work is $12,000 or above on class 1a, class 2 and class 10 buildings, including:

  • Class 1a detached houses
  • Class 1a attached dwellings or Class 2 buildings of any height
  • Class 10 buildings attached to the above and constructed at the same time
  • Retaining walls not attached but on which the integrity of a Class 1 or 2 building depends.

You can apply for this registration as an individual or a company. Contractors currently registered in other states may apply for registration under mutual recognition.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this registration as an individual you must:

  • hold a Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building) or equivalent
  • have at least three years practical experience in carrying out relevant building work
  • have at least three written references from registered building practitioners who can verify your experience
  • be fit and proper to hold the registration
  • provide a Net Assets Certificate from your accountant showing you have net tangible assets of at least $50,000.

To be eligible for this registration as a company you must provide:

  • an ASIC full company extract (no more than 28 days old)
  • a copy of either your Certification of Incorporation or Registration of Business Name
  • a Net Assets Certificate from your accountant showing you have net tangible assets of at least $50,000
  • details of at least one director or nominee that is a registered building practitioner qualified to supervise and carry out work on behalf of the corporation.
