Category H Sports Shooters Licence - Northern Territory

Description

A Category H Sports Shooters licence authorises the holder to possess and use only Category H firearms for the purpose of sports shooting at an approved firearms range.

Prescribed category H firearms are:

(a)Category H firearms that comply with the following:
(i) the calibre of the firearm does not exceed .38" unless the firearm is for use in a specially accredited discipline, in which case the calibre may exceed .38" but must not exceed .45";
(ii) if the firearm is self-loading, the barrel length is not less than 120mm;
(iii) if the firearm is a revolver or a single-shot pistol, the barrel length is not less than 100mm;
(iv) the shot capacity of the firearm does not exceed 10 rounds;

(b) black powder or muzzle loading pistols;

(c) cap and ball percussion revolvers;

(d) highly specialised target pistols.

A Permit to use Category H Firearms under Supervision for Sports Shooting is required for 3 months before you can apply for the full Category H Sports Shooters Licence.

The applicant must be a natural person, and must be at least 18 years of age.

A person may apply for a category H sports shooter's licence if the person:
(a) is a shooting member of an approved firearms club;
(b) has satisfactorily completed a firearm safety training course; and
(c) holds, and has held for at least 3 months, a permit to use category H firearms under supervision for sports shooting.
