You may need this registration if you intend to provide community housing. Community housing is housing provided by non-government organisations to people on very low, low or moderate incomes or people with additional needs.
There is no obligation for housing providers to be registered under the national system, subject to any policy or funding preconditions imposed by individual States and Territories.
This is a national registration system. If you intend to operate in only one state or territory, you must apply to that state or territory registrar. If you intend to operate in more than one state and territory, the Registrars from those states and territories will nominate a Primary Registrar to oversee all activities.
There are three tiers of registration for the national scheme:
- Tier 1 - providers face the highest level of performance requirements and regulatory engagement.
- Tier 2 - providers face an intermediate level of performance requirements and regulatory engagement.
- Tier 3 - providers face a lower level of performance requirements and engagement.
