You will need to licence a vehicle if you intend to use it to transport dangerous goods. A dangerous goods vehicle licence authorises you to use a specific vehicle (or vehicles) to transport dangerous goods by road, and can list more than one vehicle.
This licence is not required for prime movers or converter dollies, or when the dangerous good being transported:
- are diesel only; or
- are in an intermediate bulk carrier (a rigid or flexible portable package for transporting dangerous goods designed for mechanical handling); and
- the intermediate bulk carrier is not packed or unpacked on the vehicle; and
- the total capacity of intermediate bulk carriers containing dangerous goods on the vehicle is not more than 3,000 litres.
