Dealers Licence - Northern Territory

Description

You will need this licence if you intend to buy, sell or otherwise trade in firearms in the course of your business.

The owner and any employees of the business that will work with firearms will need to complete a Dealer Nominee Application.

A dealer (or an employee or partner of that dealer) may in the ordinary course of the business of the licensed dealer:

  • buy, sell, exchange or hire out firearms
  • possess unregistered firearms
  • carry or discharge a firearm for the purpose of demonstrating the firearm to a prospective purchaser or for the purpose of testing it.

Additional information

Licence holders must:

  • comply with the relevant safe keeping and storage requirements under the Firearms Act 1997
  • not permit any unauthorised person to possess or use a firearm in the holder's possession
  • permit a police officer to inspect, at any reasonable time, the holder's facilities for the storage and safe keeping of firearms
  • not possess an amount of ammunition that exceeds the amount authorised in writing by the Commissioner.
