Water Drilling Licence - Northern Territory

Description

You will need this licence if you intend to drill for water.

There are 3 classes of licence which authorise drilling in different aquifer systems. An aquifer is a geological structure or an artificial land-fill capable of being permanently or intermittently filled with water.

You may apply for the following classes of licence:

  • a class 1 licence is restricted to drilling operations in single non-flowing aquifer systems
  • a class 2 licence operates in class 1 conditions and permits drilling in multiple non-flowing aquifer systems
  • a class 3 licence operates in class 2 conditions and permits drilling operations in flowing aquifer systems, unless restricted to exclude systems in the Great Artesian Basin.
