Environment Protection Approval - Northern Territory


You will need this approval if you intend to build, install, modify or conduct works in relation to waste premises. This could include the disposal of waste by burial (landfill), the construction of sewage treatment plants, storage or recycling plants and the construction of premises for processing hydrocarbons.

Northern Territory Environment Protection Authority (NTEPA) will undertake an environmental impact assessment in relation to your approval. This assessment is to ensure that any potential actions do not have an unacceptable or significant impact on the environment.

Approval time

Environment protection approvals and licences and waste discharge licences take an average of six to eight weeks to assess and administer and may take up to three months depending on the complexity of the proposed activity.
