Firearms Employees Licence - Northern Territory


Employees who are required by their employer to use a firearm will need to possess this licence. Employees may only use firearms as part of their work duties and not for another purpose under this licence.

Employees are not permitted to purchase their own firearms, and all firearms used under the licence must belong to the holder of a Corporate Licence. Employees in some occupations, such as security guards or bank guards, will require counselling by a legal practitioner regarding the legal force that may be used and must have completed an approved firearms safety and training course.

Additional information

Licence holders must:

  • comply with the relevant safe keeping and storage requirements under the Firearms Act 1997
  • not permit any unauthorised person to possess or use a firearm in the holder's possession
  • permit a police officer to inspect, at any reasonable time, the holder's facilities for the storage and safe keeping of firearms
  • not possess an amount of ammunition that exceeds the amount authorised in writing by the Commissioner.
