Firearms Heirloom Licence - Northern Territory

Description

You will need this licence if you intend to keep firearms as heirlooms.

Licence holders must:

  • comply with the relevant safe keeping and storage requirements under the Firearms Act 1997
  • not permit any unauthorised person to possess or use a firearm in the holder's possession
  • permit a police officer to inspect, at any reasonable time, the holder's facilities for the storage and safe keeping of firearms
  • not possess an amount of ammunition that exceeds the amount authorised in writing by the Commissioner.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence, you must:

  • provide evidence that you own the firearms to be held on the licence, or that they have been given or bequeathed to you
  • provide evidence that the firearms to be held on the licence have significant historical or sentimental lineage to you or your family
  • produce a NT Police certificate that the firearms to be held on the licence have been deactivated, or you have surrendered the firearm for inspection to be certified as deactivated
  • provide written details of how you will store the firearms.
