You will need this permit if you intend to explore for geothermal resources in the Northern Territory.

Geothermal energy is a low-emission alternative energy source to traditional fossil fuels. Heat from the earth, carried by hot water, can be used to generate electricity. It can also be used in industry, agriculture and for heating and cooling buildings and homes.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible you must:

  • provide details of a realistic exploration program for the first five-year term of the exploration permit
  • prove you have the financial resources to fund the proposed five-year work program
  • prove you have the technical qualifications, or can easily get technical advice, to undertake the proposed program.
