Inquiry Agent Licence - Northern Territory

Description

You will need this licence if you intend to work as an inquiry agent or private detective.

This includes tasks like:

  • getting information about a person's character, actions, business or occupation
  • collecting evidence for legal proceedings
  • searching for missing persons on behalf of someone else.

You can be licensed as an individual agent, or as a corporation.

Please note that licensed agents can only carry out work if they haven an approved manager. Agent managers make sure that businesses are following the law and keeping records.

If you have an individual agent licence, you can either apply to be your own manager or get another person to act as a manager.

If you are licensed as a corporation, you must get another person to be your manager.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  •     have no history of fraud, dishonesty or physical violence offences
  •     pass a character test
  •     obtain a police check.

Duration

3 or 5 years.

Expiry

This licence will expire on the anniversary of the date it was issued.
