Multiple Purpose Taxi Licence - Northern Territory

Description

You will need this licence to drive a multiple purpose taxi for the purpose of hire or reward.

A multiple purpose taxi (MPT) that is fitted, equipped or constructed and approved by the Director of Commercial Passenger Transport to carry at least four passengers in addition to at least one passenger in a wheelchair.

The MPT must provide a priority service to wheelchair-bound people, and at other times, may be operated as a normal taxi. The MPT is permitted to stand for hire in designated taxi ranks and respond to ad hoc hails or pre-arranged bookings.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you need to:

  • hold a current NT driver licence if an appropriate class
  • hold a licence to drive a commercial passenger vehicle 
  • be endorsed by a taxi network, as meeting the approved training competencies 
  • ensure you meet taxi KPI's as outline in Information Bulletin CPV45
  • hold a current NT commercial passenger vehicle ID card which is endorsed with the taxi category.
