Permit for Road Events - Northern Territory

Description

You will need this permit if you intend to conduct an event on a public road. A road event is an activity which restricts or prevents access to a public road, and may include:

  • a vehicle or bicycle speed trial or race
  • a parade or procession on a public road.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible you must provide:

  • approval from the relevant road authority
  • written consent from the NT police
  • a completed application form.

The road authority is responsible for the care, control and management of public roads – e.g. councils, shire councils and the NT Government.

More than one road authority may need to grant their approval for an event.

Depending on the nature and location of the event, you may also be required to have some or all of the following:

  • public liability insurance
  • a traffic management plan
  • signs
  • a medical facility
  • litter and refuse signage
  • issue a public notice.
