Poppy Licence - Northern Territory


You require this licence if you intend to carry out one or more of the following activities associated with poppies:

  • cultivation of poppies
  • possession of poppy material
  • transportation of poppy material
  • processing of poppy material.

You will not be granted this licence without a valid contract with a licensed processing company. Prospective growers should contact a licensed poppy processor, either in the Northern Territory or another jurisdiction, to express their interest.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • submit an approved plan, made in compliance with the regulations, for the management of any risks associated with the activity to be carried out under the licence
  • provide evidence that the place the activity will be carried out is appropriate with consideration to the activity, location, facility and security arrangements
  • be a fit and proper person to hold a licence - your application will be passed onto the Commissioner of Police to assess your suitability.
  • provide evidence that you have entered into a contract with a licensed poppy processor.
