Registration as a Veterinarian - Northern Territory


Persons intending to practise as Veterinarians must be registered with the Veterinary Board of the Northern Territory. The qualifications for registration are prescribed in schedule 1 of the Veterinarians Regulations.

Qualified veterinarians may make application to the Advisory Committee on Veterinary Specialists to be recognised as a Veterinary Specialist.

Applicants who are registered in another State or Territory, or in New Zealand, may apply for registration under mutual recognition legislation.

Eligibility requirements

The requirements for registration as a Veterinarian are specified in Section 11 of the Veterinarians Act 1994 and in Regulation 4. The requirements for registration as a Veterinary Specialist are specified in Section 15 of the Act.

Registration Fees:

  • Primary Registration: $181 (for majority practice in the NT.

  • Secondary Registration: NIL (for periodic practice/locums in the NT.)

Annual Renewal Fees:

  • Primary Registration: $121; and
  • Secondary Registration: Nil
