Registration of a Brand or Earmark - Northern Territory

Description

You will need to register a three-letter brand if you intend to move cattle more than eight months old off your property. You can also brand horses, buffalo and camels but it is not mandatory.

You must only register one three-letter brand per property. Once you hold a three-letter brand registration, you may also apply for an ear mark brand or a distinctive (symbol) brand but these are not mandatory.

Transfer

Changing ownership of a property through sale or inheritance does not automatically transfer ownership of a brand that is registered for use on the property, even if the stock are included. You must apply to have the brand transferred. Transferring a three-letter brand automatically includes any associated distinctive (symbol) brand/s and earmark, unless the brand's registered owner says otherwise.
