You will need this registration if you intend to operate a hairdressing, beauty therapy or body art business. Hairdressing is any activity that is not a surgical or medical procedure that maintains, alters or enhances a person's appearance in relation to their facial or scalp hair, including hair:

  • cutting
  • trimming
  • removing
  • colouring.

Beauty therapy is any activity intended to maintain, alter or enhance a person's appearance other than a cosmetic surgical or medical procedure, including:

  • facials
  • body wraps
  • exfoliation or microdermabrasion
  • manicures or pedicures
  • epilation, waxing or threading

Body art is defined as an activity that permanently decorates or adorns a person's skin or permanently alters their appearance other than a surgical or medical procedure, including:

  • tattooing
  • body piercing
  • ear-piercing.
