Restricted Electrical Licence - Northern Territory

Description

You will need this licence if you intend to carry out low voltage electrical work relating to equipment that is connected to a fixed electrical installation, associated with your primary trade, vocation or calling (occupation) and would otherwise require the services of a registered electrical contractor or licensed electrician.

You must have a legitimate reason to perform this electrical work. Examples of legitimate reasons to apply for this licence are if you will be completing electrical work with:

  • gas equipment
  • water plumbing, heating and ventilation
  • refrigeration and air conditioning equipment
  • any other low voltage electrical work.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible, you must:

  • have completed a minimum of 12 months training in your primary work function for which the licence is applied
  • clearly identify the type of electrical work to be carried out
  • demonstrate the need for a restricted licence and that this need is on a regular basis
  • include advice from the employer setting out how the "on-the-job" training will be carried out - supervision must be carried out by a licence holder of the same or greater scope, in the same work area category
  • all applicants must undergo a colour identification test.
