On 1 February 2018, Ridesharing was introduced in the Northern Territory.
A Rideshare Licence (a sub-category of Special Passenger Vehicles) allows approved vehicles to be used to provide a transport service offered to passengers through an approved communications and dispatch service, specifically through a smartphone application-based booking.
Applicants have the choice to apply as a driver only, as the owner of a rideshare vehicle or both
A rideshare vehicle is used to carry passengers with the services of a driver for a fare which is calculated through a smartphone. Payment for fares is only through electronic means.
A $1 per trip levy is required on all trips of point to point transport services including Rideshare and must be paid on a monthly basis at the end of the month.
