You will need this approval to operate an amplified music venue within a special entertainment precinct.

Amplified music venues within special entertainment precincts are exempt from the amplified music noise requirements set out in state government liquor licensing laws.

Your local council regulates amplified music venues within special entertainment precincts to ensure residents and businesses are not exposed to unreasonable levels of amplified music and / or noise.

Eligibility requirements

You may need development approval if you are conducting the following activities:

  • starting a new amplified music venue
  • changing the type of activity
  • changing the intensity of the activity (e.g. increasing the operation from 12 hours to 24 hours a day)
  • changing the scale of the activity
  • carrying out building work
  • carrying out plumbing or drainage work.
