Description

You will need this approval if you are an occupational association preparing a scheme for the purposes of limiting the occupational liability of members of your association. The scheme aims to help improve the standards of professionals that are a part of occupational associations.

An occupational association is a body corporate that:

  • represents the interests of people who are members of the same or related occupational groups, including a professional group and trade group
  • limits membership to members of that occupational group.

Occupational liability is a civil liability, involving the obligation to pay damages or the risk of a lawsuit resulting from actions taken by a member of an occupational association while carrying out their professional duties.

The scheme may indicate an intention to operate as a scheme in Queensland only, or Queensland and other jurisdictions.
